60 YEAR JOURNEY
The year was 1954, and what is now the challenging mile and half motorsports race track scrolling around a Connecticut hillside was a potato field … and a gravel quarry owned by the Vaill family. Simply for fun, Jim Vaill and his buddy Jack Fisher would take Fisher’s MG TC around the property, kicking up dust and having a great time imagining themselves race car drivers on their way to victory.
Within a year, word had spread about their antics, and some iconic members of the Sports Car Club of America … the SCCA … arrived on the scene, curious as to what might be going on. John Fitch, Briggs Cunningham. Gaston Andrey. Fred Proctor. Two-time winner of the 12 Hours of Sebring, Bill Lloyd.
By 1957, Lime Rock Park became a reality and they were ready to race.
In 2017, track owner Skip Barber celebrated Lime Rock Park’s 60th birthday by investing millions of dollars in upgrades to create a lasting environment that embraces the future and testifies to his commitment to this historic, yet modern track .
